We recently had a call from John from Bonogin on the Gold Coast who’s builder just found termites in some house timbers whilst he was installing the new deck.
This was a very unfortunate situation as Johns’ home is all suspended on steel posts. During the full inspection, it was found that termites had made their way from the ground, in between the steel post and an attached timber batten, made their way upstairs and had created two sub-nests within the walls of the bathroom. These two nests were clearly visible with our Thermal camera which could possibly be missed without one.
Our advice was to eradicate the active termites within the house on the day with Termidor foam. Termidor foam is liquid Termidor put through our foaming machine which helps the product suspend within the wall as opposed to the liquid which would just fall down the wall, through the floorboards and just make a huge mess.
Our follow-up check, just 2 weeks later, confirmed that all termite activity within the house had ceased and it was time to protect the home – long term.
Given the style of structure, our plan was to cut the base of all the timbers in contact with the ground (or within 50mm) and wrap the base of all of the steel posts with a product called – Home guard. This product is fantastic for a structure such as this and for most pre-construction situations. We are proud not to be biased towards any product, it’s all about what’s best for that style of structure and particular situation.
John was very happy with the communication and the end result and I look forward to catching up with him again on his future annual warranty inspections and hopefully enjoy a coffee with him on his new deck 🙂
