Recently, during a termite inspection in Willow Vale on the Gold Coast, My client had called me out as he had found “termite mounds” around his property and was obviously concerned.
After I assessed the species of termite (Microcerratermes) I informed my client that this species is of no major structural threat but they can cause superficial damage to the plasterboard inside homes and the Sapwood (the outer edge of timber) but rarely cause structural damage to the point of collapse.
To my clients surprise, he had only moved these logs in place less than 4 months ago and they were in perfect condition then.
So to answer the question “how fast do termites move?” Well, even the not so aggressive species can have an affect on timber within just a few months.
Termites do move and affect timber surprisingly quickly, especially the aggressive species which we commonly find in Willow Vale and surrounding Gold Coast suburbs.
